Deprivation Of Citizenship
Citizenship by naturalisation, loss of citizenship, citizenship resumption, and expert professional advice.
The Minister of Home Affairs may deprive any South African citizen by naturalization of such citizenship if the Minister is satisfied that:
- The certificate of naturalization was obtained by means of fraud, false representation or the concealment of a material fact;
- Such certificate is granted in conflict with the provisions of the Citizenship Act or any prior law;
- The South African citizen, who also possesses the citizenship of another country, has at any time been sentenced in any country to a period of imprisonment of not less than 12 months for any offence which, if it was committed outside of South Africa, would also have constituted an offence in South Africa;
- It is in the public interest that such citizen, who also possesses the citizenship of another country, shall cease to be a South African citizen.
